Equipment, the backbone of live music

Since one of the goals of this site is to let you know what makes CFW tick, I’ll get all techy on you and talk about equipment. Today’s installment is on FOH- Front of House-. This is probably the most important group of equipment a band uses. It is the speakers, amplifiers and related gear that produces the sound that you- the audience- hears. The most important piece of FOH is the sound engineer. Our- Tammy is awesome and does a fantastic job.

I’ll map out the equipment chain from Tammy to your ears-
First is the mixer- a piece of equipment that controls the  volume of each instrument and vioce in the FOH mix. From there, we run the sound through a DSP- Digital sound processor. This controls the sound that is sent to the amps. Ours is adjusted to each venue we play for best sound. The DSP also split the signal for  the amps. We send the low frequencies to the subwoofer amp and the rest of the signal to the main amp.  From the amps, the signals are sent to the speakers.
CFW uses Peavey speakers for our main speakers. They are inexpensive, light and most importantly sound good. We use a Yamaha subwoofer for  the bottom end.

At our next gig, stop by and say hi and ask about the system.

More gigs in the works

There seems to be a lot of interest in CFW performing. We have received information on a few gigs, but most are in August. Looks like August may be a busy month for us. I am still amazed at how God provides exactly what we need. I shouldn’t be suprised, he knows what we need and when we need it, but still, there are so many of us and he is always there.

New tunes

Since we have a bit of a break in our schedule, we are adding a couple of new songs to the lineup. You Drive I’ll Ride by FFH  and possibly So  Long Self by Mercy Me.  Carrie, Stan and I have played You Drive I’ll Ride before. The song came on the radio the other day and I found myself singing along thinking what a great song it was, then I remembered I played it before!  I know what you are thinking, how could he not remember that, but I probably play 10 new songs every month and quite a few are never played again, so I just file them away for future use.
If you have any songs that you might want us to play, send us a note via the comments section. We are always looking for good material and my use your suggestion.

Not good to go!!

Seems like Friday’s event is not going to happen. We got a call from the venue that with the nice weather they are not getting the turnout they want, so they cancelled and want to reschedule.

Good toGo!

CFW is playing at Livingstone Coffe house on June 8th @ 8PM. The coffeehouse address is 2464 Seneca St (At the corner of Wildwood). We hope to see you all there.

Yes I realize that my last post has this information, but I forgot to post the address or the time. Plus, we are really excited to play!!  If you are on our email list, You should get a reminder on the 3rd. Can’t get enough of a good thing!.

Back in the saddle again.

CFW is back rehearsing and we are set to perform at the Livingstone Coffee house on June 8 at 8PM. Rehearsal went well after being off for what seemed like forever. Everyone was pretty much spot on and the band was tight!  We had a great time and can’t wait to get back on the stage and playing out again. We look forward to seeing you all soon.

Live from Higher Grounds

Since CFW is not able to play at Higher Grounds tonight and Carrie is so graciously filling in, I have the opportunity to actually post from Higher Grounds.  It’s that quiet time before soundcheck and it is actually pretty nice to not have to rush to get ready.

Life without the internet

One of the reasons I have not posted lately is I did not have access to the internet. It was not broke, I chose to leave it home.  My whole family went on a cruise and we were gone for 8 days- 4 on the ship and the rest travelling and laying on the beach  in Florida. I could have used a laptop to access the net all that time, but I wanted to get away from it all.  Funny thing is I did not miss it at all.  The world did not stop, it got along fine without me.  Cool.

What a month!!!

There is a line in my favorite movie where one of the main characters  towards the end of the movie basically asks what has happen so far and is told- Let me explain, no there is too much- let me sum up. One of CFW’s members is battling an illness that has lead us to cancel our events for the month of May.  Carrie will perform at the events in our place. - Keep us in your prayers.

MySpace?

I was reading an email from Mark Weber about Tina Marie Williams at the Tralf. From there I went to Relevant Worship’s myspace page, then to Kingdom Bound’s and then TobyMac and Skillet. Seems like everyone is on myspace- I admit it, I have a personal page. Do you feel CFW not having a myspace page is hurting the group? Give us your feedback.
